Accessibility Information

The Festival of Outback Skies is a three night/two-day event organized by the Flinders Shire Council in Hughenden, Outback Queensland.

We are a small town with a big heart and welcome everyone with open arms. We do have limited resources when it comes to providing infrastructure and technology needs for all accessibility needs, however we aim to provide you with as much information as we can about the festival grounds and experiences to assist you in planning your trip.

We also welcome any feedback you may have for us in relation to your festival planning and experience that will assist us in improving our accessible information, assistance and facilities.

Hughenden Showgrounds is located on Stansfield Street which is a sealed road all the way to the venue. On arrival to the showgrounds drive through the main gate and along the road until you reach the dedicated accessibility parking spots featured on the festival map.

If you require further assistance in accessing venues please contact the festival director Jennifer Tasker on 0417094501 or email tdo@flinders.qld.gov.au to arrange for a buggy to collect and transport you to your venue.

All walkways and roads within the showgrounds are flat, however the surface is dirt and as such may be a little uneven.

The Workshop spaces are on ground level with accessible entry ways, except for the wool pavilion which has a ramp to the entry.

The showgrounds has two permanent accessible toilet blocks with an additional third that is hired for the festival weekend.

We do have accessible reserved seating area at the bullride and you are able to choose your own table at the dinner under the stars. With notice we can locate your table closer to either the toilets or stage depending on your preference.

The Art Trail is approximately 75 meters in length and is an accessible pathway. The trail start can be accessed by car or is within 250 m of the showground campgrounds. There are no amenities on the trail.

The lake has accessible parking and pathways around the whole lake. All of the toilet blocks are also accessible. There will be a reserved seating area for mobility scooters, prams and wheelchairs.

Guide dogs and companion dogs are allowed at all of the festival venues, but must remain on a leash.

Companion cards are honoured, and a free ticket will be issued to the companion, except for the dinner under the stars where the companion will be charged half price to cover their meal expenses.

A Chillout tent will be available specifically to cater for people that require some quiet space. The tent will also have water available for companion dogs

The Allen Terry Caravan Park has one accessible cabin, and the Royal Hotel has two accessible motel rooms. Powered and unpowered campsite are available at the showgrounds and if requested a spot can be reserved close to the accessible toilet and shower block.

A mobility map of Hughenden is coming soon. The map will show all of the accessible attractions, shops, pathways and amenities in the Shire.

The festival runs a shuttle bus on all three evenings which does have the capacity to load a wheelchair. The shuttle bus stops at the following locations;

  • Allen Terry Caravan Park
  • Royal Hotel
  • Hughenden Industrial and Freight
  • Hughenden Bowls Club

The shuttle bus times will be released closer to the event date.
