A Greener Festival
Under the Southern Cross
The magic of the Festival of Outback Skies lies in the pristine, ancient landscape of Hughenden and the breathtaking clarity of its night sky. We believe it’s our collective responsibility to protect this special place for future generations. That’s why we’re committed to making our festival as sustainable as possible, and we invite you to join us in this important mission.
Our Pledge to the Outback
We are dedicated to minimising our environmental footprint. Here’s what we’re doing:
A Plastic-Free Event
We are proud to be a single-use plastic-free event. To achieve this, all our wonderful food and market vendors are required to use only compostable or recyclable materials, such as bamboo cutlery and cardboard packaging. This helps us dramatically reduce landfill waste and protect our unique environment.
Leaving a Positive Legacy
To help offset emissions from travel, we are developing a festival tree-planting project. In partnership with a local nursery that will be donating native saplings, we aim to give you a hands-on opportunity to leave a positive, living mark on the Hughenden landscape. Stay tuned for more details on how you can participate!
Your Part in Our Story
A truly sustainable event is a team effort. Here’s how you can make a huge difference:
BYO Cup & Bottle
Be a festival hero! Please bring your own reusable water bottle and a keep-cup for your coffee or other drinks. We’ll have water refill stations available to help you stay hydrated. This is the single biggest way you can help us reduce waste.
Leave No Trace
Help us keep our outback home beautiful. Please use the designated recycling and general waste bins correctly, and leave your campsite and our festival grounds as pristine as you found them.
