Basket Weaving

Join Lee George, a proud Wulgurukaba woman and talented artist, for an inspiring workshop that celebrates culture, creativity, and craftsmanship. In this hands-on experience, you’ll learn the art of basket weaving and explore how to create stunning wearable art pieces using raffia sourced from Madagascar.

During this three-hour workshop we will explore how to create wearable art in the form of a bangle, earrings and a pendant. You will be provided will all resources to create your wearable art.
Lee will demonstrate how to make a small basket.
You will have the skills to create your own basket and wearable art at home.

Lee George

Lee is a Wulgurukaba woman from Yubenun country, Magnetic Island.

She creates beautiful wearable art and is also enjoys creating baskets, placemats and wall hangings from raffia derived from Madagascar.

Lee has always been a creative spirit and participates in many art forms. She would love to show you how to create your own wearable art or basket at her workshops and is excited to be invited to the Outback Festival in 2026. This is the first one she has attended and she welcomes you to sit with her and learn the ancient practice of weaving.
