BBQ Steak Cook Off – SCA Sanctioned

Are you a great BBQ cook? Bring your backyard skills to the Festival of Outback Skies to test your worth for some great fun and prizes.

First-time competitors welcome. Rib Eye Steaks are supplied to all competitors courtesy of Flinders Butchery.

Double Steak – Steak Cookoff Association-sanctioned event.

Prize Money

  • Steak A – 1st $1250, 2nd $750, 3rd $500
  • Steak B – 1st $1250, 2nd $750, 3rd $500

The winner receives a Golden Ticket and is invited to the SCA World Championship in Fort Worth, TEXAS held in March yearly to compete for $10,000 and the SCA World Championship ring.

Time:

  • 11:00am to 12:00pm – BBQ Competition Bump in
  • 12pm – Cooks Meeting
  • 2pm – Steak A Hand In
  • 3pm- Steak B Hand in
  • 4:45pm – Winners Announced

 Basic Rules

  • Cooks may cook on any fire or heat source. (wood, gas, charcoal, electric, pellet, sous vide etc)
  • Each cook/registrant is encouraged to have a fire extinguishing device in their cook site.
  • Flinders Butchery provides all competition steaks for the event to create a level playing field. No other ribeye steaks are allowed at a cook’s site.
  • The SCA standard for steaks is a minimum of 1 1/8” or 3cm thick, boneless, choice, ribeye steak.
  • Steaks may be lightly trimmed before, but not after cooking.
  • Grills may be used by more than one cook. Each registrant must cook their steaks and may only turn in one steak per competition.
  • Turn in one steak, whole and uncut, on top of the provided foil disk. The provided foil disks must be placed in the box, silver side up, and not folded in any way. The steaks will be judged as presented in the box.
  • No sauce or garnish is allowed in the steak turn-in box. A compound butter is allowed if it is melted on the steak.
  • Judging will be conducted by a panel of judges in a “blind judging” format.
  • Steaks are judged on Appearance, Doneness (Medium), Taste, Texture and Overall Impression.
  • You do not need to be a member of SCA to participate in SCA events. However, only SCA members are eligible to collect points and win a Golden Ticket to the SCA World Championship.
  • The minimum age to compete in any adult category is 13 years old. They need to do their steak selections, seasoning, cooking, and steak turn at the event.
